2018 NFL Draft 

 

 

1. Cleveland Browns:  Josh Allen

 

I have the Browns selected the strong armed Allen over the likes of Sam Darnold. Allen is familiar with the weather conditions they face in Cleveland as he did in Wyoming. He will have time, at least this year to soak up the NFL from the bench behind Tyrod Taylor and learn to adapt better.

 

2. New York Giants: Bradley Chubb

 

The Giants would benefit from a trade down, but most teams (Bills/Cardinals) who need a QB would mortgage the future of the team and give up 4 picks minimum to get here. So I slot the G-Men with the best pure edge rusher in the draft being Chubb. He is explosive off the edge, and will replace JPP who the Giants traded to Tampa earlier this year.

 

3. New York Jets: Sam Darnold

 

The Jets have the best rated Quarterback fall into their laps, as the Giants decide to address an need over a want. Darnold has the complete package from field vision, to good arm strength and drive to win. He will need to get better at decision making, and the added pressure is the Jets traded up well before the draft to get a instant impact QB.

 

4. Cleveland Browns: Saquon Barkley

 

The Browns already addressed the future at the Quarterback position, now they take the top rated offensive player on the board. Barkley is a complete player, and can play all 4 downs. He has speed, some power and can catch. Even with the addition of Hyde in the offseason, the Browns can't pass on a weapon like this. With plenty of picks, they can address other needs in the next round.

 

5. Denver Broncos: Quentin Nelson

 

With the Broncos having issues on the offensive line last season, they decide Nelson over Mayfield to help protect Case Keenum. Nelson has been the best guard prospect in some time, and is a absolute force to deal with.

 

6. Indianapolis Colts: Tremaine Edwards

 

The Colts in this scenario miss out on Quentin Nelson, who would be a huge upgrade to their offensive line. So they address the defense, getting a very young and talented linebacker who can do a bit of everything. Edwards is only 19, and brings young to a ugly defense. A trade down with a team like the Bills is also possible.

 

7. Tampa Bay Buccs: Denzel Ward

 

Tampa has many needs on defense, but with acquiring JPP, they helped in one area of need. So they grab the best cover corner who has good speed and good hands. Ward is the top corner, and gets paired with Vernon Hargreaves.

 

8. Buffalo Bills: Baker Mayfield               (Bears get: #12, #53)

 

The first trade of the draft, with Buffalo moving ahead of Miami to make sure they get the QB they want. Mayfield proves he can win, and play big when his team needed him. He does have a wild personality at times, but I think he matures and learns to adapt to the NFL.

 

9. San Francisco 49ers:  Roquan Smith

 

The 49ers have to address the linebacker position even more now with the issues Rueben Foster has going on. They brought both Edwards and Smith in for visits, and Smith is available for them. He brings a lot of speed to the position, and is good at slipping blocks as well as chasing down opponents.

 

10. Oakland Raiders: Minkah Fitzpatrick

 

The Raiders have glaring needs at both cornerback and safety, so why not draft someone who has played and can play both positions? Fitzpatrick brings his versatility, ball skills and football IQ to a John Gruden led team.

 

11. Arizona Cardinals:  Josh Rosen             (Dolphins get: #15, 2nd rd pick in 2019)

 

The Cardinals are in desperate need to address the QB position, and with Rosen falling they call Miami and get a top signal caller. Rosen brings experience under center, and someone who can deliver in the pocket under pressure. He will need to mature, and get people to buy in that he can be a leader.

 

12. Chicago Bears:  Will Hernandez

 

After a trade down because target Denzel Ward was picked, the Bears select Hernandez who had a great combine. His brute power and ability to both pass and run block will help replace Josh Sitton, and make Mitch Trubisky feel more at piece.

 

13. Washington Redskins: Vita Vea

 

The Redskins ranked last against the run last year, and haven't had a good nose tackle in some time. Enter Vea, who is a "dancing bear" as some experts call him. He has top level strength, can eat up blocks and provides decent speed for a big boy.

 

14. Green Bay Packers: Josh Jackson

 

The Packers have had issues at the cornerback position for several years, letting Casey Hayward leave, and trading Damarius Randell this offseason. They select Josh Jackson, who defended 27 passes and produced 8 interceptions.

 

15. Miami Dolphins: Da'Ron Payne

 

The Dolphins moved on from Suh, and literally have a big hole to feel at defensive tackle. With Vea off the board, they can get the 2nd best defensive tackle in Payne. He can handle taking on blocks, has good strength and has multiple moves to get pressure.

 

16. Baltimore Ravens: Calvin Ridley

 

It seems the Ravens issues at receiver never really worked out with those they brought in last year, so the take Ridley and pair him with Crabtree. Ridley is explosive with speed, and the ability to separate if corners give him some room.

 

17. LA Chargers: Mike McGlinchey

 

The Chargers have done a good job already addressing the offensive line last draft, getting Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeny for the guard spots. Now they go get the best tackle in the draft, and continue overhauling the once weakest spot on the team from 2 years back. They also added Mike Pouncey at center this offseason.

 

18. Seattle Seahawks: Derwin James

 

The Seahawks need to start rebuilding their strong point that use to be, the defense and what way to do that by getting James. James is a force, and a big hitter who will replace Kam Chancellor who's future is in jeopardy with a neck injury.

 

19. Dallas Cowboys: Tavon Bryan

 

The Cowboys release of Dez Bryant might argue receiver is the top need, but they signed both Allen Hurns and Deonte Thompson in the offseason to go with Williams, Beasley and Switzer. They have problems on the defensive line getting pressure outside of Demarcus Lawrence. Bryan can help bring inside pressure at the d tackle spot, and also brings some position flexibility on the line.

 

20. Detroit Lions: Marcus Davenport

 

New head coach Matt Patricia has a decision to make, address a weak pass rush or also weak offensive line. Being a defensive minded coach, and that Ensah is only under the tag this year they opt for defensive line. Davenport brings his small school ability speed and quickness off the edge, and has impressed at the combine and pro day.

 

21. Cincinnati Bengals: James Daniels

 

With Russell Bodine leaving in free agency, the interior of the offensive line is in big trouble, so taking flexible center/guard Daniels is ideal. His position ability allows the Bengals to have some options of their line. They already addressed tackle with acquiring Cordy Glenn from the Bills.

 

22. Buffalo Bills:  Isaiah Wynn

 

With a trade up earlier the Bills landed their Quarterback of the future being Baker Mayfield. They need to address the offensive line for him, with Eric Wood and Richie Incognito retiring. Isaiah Wynn is a good option, as he can play both guard and tackle if needed. His strength and positive use of his hands with allow him to start day 1.

 

23. New England Patriots: Rashaan Evans

 

The Patriots acquired this from the Rams for Cooks, and use it to address it's biggest need on defense. They were beat most of the year by running backs who matched up against linebackers. Evans brings many things, included the new age size and speed linebackers are looking like. He can cover, rush off the edge, and delay blitz up the middle. Pairing him another Bama linebacker in Hightower would be ideal.

 

24. Carolina Panthers: Cortland Sutton

 

The Panthers dealt Cam's favorite target away being Kelvin Benjamin to the Bills, and need to replace him. Cortland Sutton brings a big frame to them, bringing good size/speed combination and someone who can fight through traffic/contact.

 

25. Tennessee Titans: Harold Landry

 

The Titans made a big move to address the corner position getting Malcolm Butler paired with former Patriot Logan Ryan. Now they can address pass rush, as both Orakpo and Morgan are aging and free agents after this year. Landry can rush off the edge and uses his hands well, but also can drop in coverage.

 

26. Atlanta Falcons: Maurice Hurst

 

The Falcons have a solid defensive core that is young, but they need to pair someone with Grady Jarrett. Hurst also brings interior power and quickness, similar to Jarrett, but brings a bit more speed allowing him to penetrate gaps better and move along the line.

 

27. New Orleans Saints:  Mike Gesicki

 

The Saints had a great year, and struck gold in the draft with both Lattimore and Kamara. Their offense was good, but lacked production from the tight ends. Mike Gesicki will provide good speed, hands and route running to stretch the field like the Jimmy Graham days.

 

28. Pittsburg Steelers: Justin Reid

 

The Steelers also can consider linebacker, but they have drafted many in the last 3-4 years as TJ Watt was a good selection last season. With Ryan Shazier up in the air they will have a tough decision. They have missed a impact safety since Troy Polumalu and released Mike Mitchell this offseason. Reid has good football IQ, and can play deep cover or play up in the box.

 

29. Jacksonville Jaguars:  Connor Williams

 

The Jaguars made a big move signing Andrew Norwell to solidify left guard for some time, but the right side of the line also needs help. Williams played tackle at Texas, but some view him as a guard in the NFL. It will keep Blake Bortles happy, and Leonard Fornette.

 

30. Minnesota Vikings: Billy Price

 

The Vikings had a great season end short to the soon to be Super Bowl champs. They added Kirk Cousins, and he inherits some great offensive weapons in Diggs, Rudolph, Thielen and Cook. Getting additional help for the offensive line to keep him protected is needed, so they take a flyer on the best rated center in the draft. Price is very good, but is recovering from a injury in which he should be ready for pre-season.

 

31. Indianapolis Colts: Kolton Miller                         (Pats receive : #36, #67

The Colts have many needs on both sides of the ball, and got extra picks in the trade with the Jets. After addressing linebacker, they go with Miller at tackle. They need to protect Andrew Luck, and Miller has elite size and showed off in the combine from speed, bench and positional drills.

 

32. Philadelphia Eagles: Orlando Brown

 

The Eagles don't have many holes on the roster, but the loss of Jason Peters is a concern, especially for the long haul. Brown slipped after a terrible combine performance, but on tape shows a player who can dominate at his position.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

 

 





Cleveland Browns Offseason Gameplan

It's no secret that the Cleveland Browns have been terrible over the last 5-10 years, not threatening to make thee playoffs. No matter who is coaching, and playing QB they just cant muster together a winning season. The biggest issue I see isn't so much talent, as they have had a vast amount of draft selections it seems year in and year out. It comes down to coaching and team chemistry, both which never seem to come together. Now don't get me wrong, they do have a somewhat weak team structure as far as players as well. But for the amount of high draft picks they have obtained over the last 5 years, most players haven't stuck with the team. Once again, the Browns host a slew of draft selections being the 1st and 4th overall in the first round, as well as the 33rd, 35th and 64th. I am going to display a game plan for Cleveland, starting with the free agency period on how to try and right this ship, so lets have some fun!


Free Agency:


1) Their first move in my eyes is to lock in a Quarterback, and not through the draft. They have swung and missed with Kizer, Manziel and Weeden so far and cant risk a drat choice again. So my thoughts are go get A.J. McCarron who won his grievance against  the Bengals. You keep him in division, and he can face his old team twice a year. He isn't a flashy name, but who that is flashy wants to play in a cold weathered, bottom of the league team? If anything, a player willing to go their is someone who just wants to be a starter in this league. It wont break the bank, and he will rank as a mid-tier talent available. Other options could include Sam Bradford, or as a wild card is trading for Mike Glennon from the Bears.


2) Sign Terelle Pryor, though it seems crazy after he had a down season at least he knows the offense in Cleveland. ANd with that down year, I doubt he did much to have teams fighting for his services to improve a team. The Browns tried to re-acquire him at the trade deadline so they have interest in him. I think pairing him with Josh Gordan will help him re-emerge as a threat. That will be a solid dup on the outside, and you hope Corey Coleman stays healthy and is your slot guy.


3) Signing Malcolm Butler would go a long way into improving a very leaky secondary. Jason McCourty was a solid addition and played well, but they need more youth, and Butler is looking for a big pay day. The Browns can give him anything he wants as terms of funding with the space they have. Butler slates as their #1 cornerback.



NFL Draft:


#1 With the need of playmakers for a weak offense, I truly believe Barkley is the guy you take with this pick. He is as explosive as Zek was coming out of college, but also fielded punts in college as a 4 down player. He is explosive with speed, strength and elusiveness. Saquon Barkley can be tht game changing draft pick the Browns have missed on over the last 10 years.


#4 The need to add another playmaker on defense is still a focus, and Minkah Fitzpatrick is the best player coming out for secondary help. He can slot at either corner and safety, and has good speed and ball awareness. The Browns can implement some fun defenses with Fitzpatrick versatility and last years safety Jabrill Peppers.


#31 (Trade) The Browns make a move here to go up and grab a player who might not make it past the Eagles. The Patriots are known for trading down near the end of round 1, and will get the Browns #33 pick and #65. With this pick Cleveland will grab Kolton Miller who can help fill in at Right Tackle for now. He may be the successor for a aging Joe Thomas who is coming off injury this past season.


#64 To continue the offensive rehaul, the Browns will go with Anthony Miller at the receiver position. Some insurance for both Gordan and Coleman, Miller provides a speed and reliability for both guys. At Memphis he put up enormous numbers, grabbing 37 scores in 3 seasons.

2017 Mock Draft: With the 1st Pick, The Cleveland Browns Select....

1. Cleveland Browns - Myles Garrett


-This pick has been rumored to be a toss up, as internal members of the front office also like Mitch Trubisky. In my eyes, it's all chatter, maybe to generate trade buzz for someone to offer them a monster package to grab a QB. But Garrett is on a similar Von Miller like level, a difference maker who will make a big impact. As they transition to a 43 defense, they need a additional defensive end to fill out the d line, and Garrett will fit the bill.


2. San Francisco 49ers - Solomon Thomas  (Possible trade scenario)


- Though the 49ers have more hole then swiss cheese on their defense, but it all starts in the trenches to generate pressure and take pressure off the secondary. With the draft being deep, they also can address a running back or secondary help in rounds 2 and 3. Thomas has climbed the boards in the last couple months, and it's because a strong combine and pro day. He will be paired with Armstead and Buckner, other 1st round selections in previous years. I will say this is a spot to watch a trade up for, as Carolina could move up for Thomas or Fournette. I won't close the books on a trade up here.


3. Chicago Bears - Jamaal Adams


- The Bears have done a good job last year bringing in a handful of help on both sides of the ball, and will continue to this year. Adams is a physical safety that will help bring the boom to the defensive backfield for the Bears, in a division filled with fast offenses that rely on the passing game. He also brings in good run support as well, can't miss pick here for the Bears.


4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Fournette


- The Jags are always a tough team to gauge in draft situations, but with the struggle of Blake Bortles, getting a elite running back would go a long way to help him develop. They have drafted a couple in the past, but Yeldon and Robinson arent durable to run inside the tackles. Enter Fournette, one of the best running back prospects in the last 10 years. He has his weight down to 224, and is a physical machine with good speed for his size. The Jags would be crazy to pass him up.

5. Tennessee Titans: Corey Davis


- The Titans have done a good job building a young and strong offensive line, and then grabbed Murray and drafted henry at running back. They lack the receivers that can make a big impact, and Corey Davis is the compete package with both size and speed. He has overtaken Mike Williams, because he possesses more speed. You can't go wrong either way, and O.J. Howard is also in play if they dont go receiver here.

6. Cleveland Browns: Mitch Trubisky     (Jets Receive 12th and 33rd pick) 


- Cleveland decides to bite the bullet, and make a big trade to go get their Qb they also wanted at the #1 pick. Even though he is a 1 year starter, he has shown enough to warrant the pick, with a strong arm and good pocket presence.

7. Los Angeles Chargers: Malik Hooker


- The Chargers are in need to replace the former Eric Weddle who was their centerfielder, and Hooker can cover a lot of field. He will miss 2-4 months of time, but he has great cover range, and good ball skills in college. The safeties aren't a strong suit right now for the Chargers, and Hooker instantly upgrades them, and is paired with Joey Bosa former Buckeye teammate.

8. Carolina Panthers: Christian McCaffrey


- The Panthers have a aging Jonathan Stewart who is now 30, and they need some youth to help Cam Newton in that backfield. McCaffrey has shot up the boards of late, and displays good running ability and one of the best pass catching backs to come into the league this draft. He can play in the backfield, out in the slot and out wide. His flexibility will help the Panthers open up the offense with Benjamin and Olsen getting some help.

9. Cincinati Bengals: Derek Barnett


- Barnett had the most sacks in college football last season, and made more plays then Myles Garrett (not a lie). The Bengals have a aging defensive line, and have lacked getting pressure on the quarterback of recent. Barnett will upgrade and start day 1. The Bengals also are in play for addressing CB.

10. Buffalo Bills: Mike Williams


- The Bills say they are set at receiver ("we have our #2 receiver on the roster), but losing 3 guys and bringing in backups wont address the need. Enter Mike Williams, a tall physical athlete that made a lot of big catches in the championship game and during his whole career. He will battle for the ball, and thats something the Bills lack. He is another Clemson Tiger receiver to pair with Sammy Watkins, though the Bills haven't picked up his 5th year option yet.


11. New Orleans Saints: Taco Charlton


- Though the need at corner is very high, the ability to get a guy like Taco here isn't something the Saints will pass up. With many needs on defense, getting a physical freak of Charlton at 6'5" 277 who can win with strength or display good speed to win against offensive lineman.

12. New York Jets:  Jabrill Peppers


- The Jets traded down because they have a plethora of needs on both sides of the ball, and still get to address a big need with Peppers. Jabrill showed a ton of capabilities in the combine, as he worked on offense as well as defense. Peppers showed he has great ball skills in drills, and has speed to even play a slot corner role besides safety. He is a hybrid player, who will help the Jets big time.

13. Arizona Cardinals: Gareon Conley


- Well they won't see either big receiver fall to them, so they address another top need at cornerback, and Conley has been shooting up the boards after his combine. He has good speed and ball skills, and will pair with Peterson to create the best corner combine in the NFC West.

14. Philadelphia Eagles: Marlon Humphrey


- The Eagles have restructured parts of the defense this offseason, and already upgraded the receiver position. The need a cornerback, as they lack good play and Humphrey is a guy who is a solid option in the middle of the 1st. Both starters last year are gone, and Patrick Robinson was signed for just 1 year. Humphrey ran a good 4.41 speed, and sits at age 20 so he has lots of years and time to develop his game even more.

15. Indianapolis Colts: Takkarist McKinley 


- The Colts added a slew of different linebackers this offseason, so a outside edge presence is something they need to replace as Robert Mathis retired this year. Tak can win in both a speed rusher and with a combination of other moves.

16. Baltimore Ravens: Cam Robinson

- The Ravens lost Ricky Wagner at tackle this offseason, and don't have much on the depth charts to fill the void. Cam is believed by some to play inside at guard, while others still think he can play tackle. The Ravens will work him in at right tackle and let him develop and protect Flacco.

Another Long Layover From Posting: Patriots Win #5!!!!

Wow, what can I say I kinda forgot I had a blog website still going. I have to start getting back into writing to some extent, and what better way like last time to base it off a SUPERBOWL WIN BY MY PATRIOTS!!!! #5 in the best fashion, coming back from down 25 points in the 2nd half to force OT and have Tom terrific lead a drive to end it before Atlanta had a chance.


If your not on Tom Brady as the GOAT train, you clearly must have some kind of pure hatred against the guy which I wont understand. Let me guess; deflategate??? The biggest crock for a investigation the NFL has ever had... Let's make it clear, the courts didn't over turn it in his favor because Goodell has absolute power to do what he wants, something the players union gave him during CBA talks. So regardless of the lack of proof it wouldn't matter. Did his phone get smashed, yes. Did he had over needed evidence and ask what they needed, yes. Fact is it had no bearing in that game, and the league has no physical proof other then "more likely then not". Try convicting someone on a speeding ticket or another basic violation and good luck have a ruling in your favor. The league would never say "we were wrong" and more evidence of that is the PSI report for the 2015 season that they said would be made public with findings, and never released them. If you have some kind of backing, you put it out there to support your ruling. This just in, the weather is a factor in pressure, just like car tires decrease in air when its cold. NFL this is scientific, breaking news.


Back to the game, what a crazy win that turned out to be, and at no point did i throw in the towel because i believe in #12 and BB. I distinctly was asked by my friend "how are you coming back down this much. It's over man" My response: "one play at A time, one play". And of course that is exactly what happened, with a defining moment coming on a Dont'a Hightower strip sack which gave the Pats the ball in Atlanta territory. That single play was the 2nd biggest play in Hightowers career, as his 1st was a tackle on M. Lynch back 2 years prior while being blocked to stop him at the 1 yard line. That next play led to the Butler interception, but that tackle gave life to the opportunity to seize by Butler.


Tom terrific was near perfect in the 4th quarter, as he led 3 scoring drives and 2 successful 2 point conversions to get the Patriots to tie the game with less then 2 minutes to go. He received big contributions from rookie receiver Malcolm Mitchell making many big catches. Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola also had several big plays as well. But nobody was more important then 3rd string running back James White. White played a Shane Vereen like style from 2 years ago, making many big plays in the passing game. He obtained 14 receptions for 110 yards with a scoring touchdown, and had 6 carries for 29 yards and 2 scores. He scored the overtime TD on a toss play right, that sealed the 5th SB victory for the patriots.


A under the radar performance during the game came from 2nd year player Trey Flowers, a under the radar defensive end who came on strong in the back half of the season.  He made several big plays, and recorded 2.5 sacks in the superbowl, one which hurt Atlanta field position wise while moving into Patriot territory. Bennett also had a somewhat quite yet strong performance that is overlooked because he also was used well to block. His 5 catches for 62 yards was one of his better performances, and also drew the interference in the endzone in OT to set up the Pats to win the game.



I slowly but surely kept myself calm but also continued to get amped more and more once that strip sack occurred and the Pats scored. I made a promise at the end of the game, after the Pats tied it that if the patriots won i was going snow diving. And as soon as White scored, I ran to the porch door, but ran back knowing that play would be reviewed. As soon as it was confirmed (and others at my superbowl party were swearing in anger) I kept my word. I dove off the porch landing, and made a snow angel in joy! I screamed "World Champs, Woooh'!!!! It wass truly a emotional period, in which i did tear up afterr the celebration and trophy was given. It's crazy to see what I have in the last 17 years, 5 superbowl wins. Hearing Brady isn't good anymore, they only cheat and win the rings. Well here are 2 more Rings. Roger That! Deflate these Balls!!

I'm Backkkk, and We The Best!!!

Man, it's been a long time since I was on this site, and a long time that I posted a story on my blog. But what a perfect time, as the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS are SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!!!! We finally got back on top of the world, and what a crazy game that was. I can tell you I was like a little kid in a candy store after the Malcolm Butler interception!

Knowing it was going to be a challenging game, and nobody invited my to a Superbowl party I went over to my parents for the big game. It was a Superbowl that I was so nervous for, after the bull crap deflate-gate garbage story, and knowing how physical the Seahawks are. I was preparing for the worst while hoping for the best, and as long as we didn't get blown out like the Broncos from the previous year. I didn't watch any pre-game crap until 5:35pm, knowing I didn't need any more nerves to start acting up that night. I was ready to go into the game with minimal build up from so many fake analyst, many who badgered the Patriots the weeks leading up to this game. Victory not only would bring piece to me, but the sweet victory to witness #4, remembering each game like it was yesterday.

The Patriots first drive ended after getting a first down, and lead to a punt which a questionably flag (running into the kicker) wasn't a personal foul as the rules state. The nerves started up, especially since we received the ball first and the offense was shut down. But the defense was able to hold there own, not letting Seattle cross into our territory. And the first quarter overall was a very fast pace, and led to no scoring.

The 2nd quarter things started to go in motion, as Brady started finding Gronk and Edelman. But it came on the goal line when Brady was under pressure and threw a bad pass on 3rd down that was intercepted by Jeremy Lane. The drive ended with no points, and the momentum that was built was gone.  The defense came up again with solid stops, and got the offense the ball back. The pats drove down the field and Brady found Lafell for 7 on a 11 yard pass. All I could do was a small fist pump, knowing that was a good start, but we needed to keep the momentum and pressure going. But as easy as that lead was, the Seahawks managed to move down the field, as Lynch ripped some good runs off. Wilson also had a couple key throws, but it was lynch from the 3 who pounded it in to draw a tie at 7-7 with 2:16 left. Brady and company though once again moved the ball, with help from Shane Vereen and Edelman in between the zone defense. It led to a Rob Gronkowski touchdown who was in coverage by Bruce Irvin I believe. Connecting for 22 yards, and giving a Gronk spike made it a 14-7 lead with 0:31 seconds left. But the Seahawks got a 19 yard run by Robert Turbin, followed by a big scramble by Russell Wilson and they were in business. After a costly roughing the passer, it set up a terrible defensive play by Logan Ryan allowing Wilson to find Chris Mathews for 11 yards and the score. The game went into the half 14-14 with Seattle getting the ball in the 3rd.

The opening drive was evenly distributed with good runs and solid passes, with Seattle getting a field goal and taking up 3:51 to take a 17-14 lead. The Patriots offense couldn't get anything going, with a couple drives getting first downs but nothing more. Legarrette Blount was non-existent in this game, and couldn't break off any good runs. After the start of a drive, and getting a first down Tom Brady tried squeezing a ball to Gronk which was picked off by Bobby Wagner. At that point, I thought the game was over. The Seahawks had all the momentum, and they were in good field position on our side of the field. This drive went 3:13, and 50 yards after some penalties but led to a Doug Baldwin touchdown and mocking of Revis who was picked on the play by the ref. Richard Sherman also joined the mocking by showing 2-4 (Revis Number) then pointing to the scoreboard and signaling a touchdown, score being 24-14.  The Pats next drive lead to a quick punt, nothing built offensively and the 3rd quarter was turning over to the 4th.

Now, at this point I was relaxed and felt things looked grim for the team and it would be more criticism for me at work after another big loss. The Pats were able to get a very strong drive going, throwing out of the shot-gun and getting consistent catches to move down the field fast. The drive was capped off by the oft injured Danny Amendola in the back of the end zone for 3 yards.  I had found hope, seeing the team drive and score in just over 4 minutes and having 7:55 left in the game. Knowing that the defense had to play big and hold any drive to 3 points or nothing. And they did just that, containing Lynch from any monstrous runs and the defense not letting receivers get open down field.  That gave Tom the ball back with Tim to do what he does best, drive the team down the field and have a chance. And they executed on that, when Tom led a pass heavy drive to the 3 yard line, and found Edelman on a Zig-Out leaving the corner jumping the slant fake and not coming close to making a play. It was 28-24, they overcame a 10 point 4th quarter deficit (most in a superbowl) and I was off my seat witnessing the greatness that Tom showed he had left. So it left Russell Wilson with 2:02 left, and the defense had to close it out like they didn't against the Giants in 2007 and 2012. It didn't start well with Lynch beating Collins for a big gain getting over the 50 yard line. After a small catch, then a incompletion I witnessed what looked to be the 3rd time a miracle catch would defeat the Patriots. Jermaine Kearse made an insane catch, that he tipped, which then hit his leg that he found and hauled in above his head while hitting the ground. He was able to get up and get to the 4 yard line. I was beyond hurt, knowing how each game versus the Giants had a similar play that lead to a touchdown. With Beast Mode ready to pounce at a chance to run it in, his first carry went for 3 yards to the 1. But the Seahawks tried to get cute, running a classic pick play allowing the back receiver to undercut and get open on a slant. But Malcolm "Who Are You" Butler made one of the greatest plays in the superbowl, jumping the route 4 yards deep in the end zone and cutting in front of the receiver beating him to the ball. He feel to the 3 yard line, and I jumped off the couch and ran down the halls screaming "It's OVER, WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I was almost in tears seeing a interception with 20 seconds left and Seattle at 1 timeout. The option of throwing over giving the beast the carry will echo with "Why did they pass" for years to come. All that mattered was the Patriots were kneeing the ball and taking that confetti shower. The Golden Boy did it at age 36, bringing his team down and winning it, but with the help of a undrafted, no name Malcolm Butler. The storybook ending came true, and I was there at 257 S. Fourth Ave watching the 4th Ring come to the New England Patriots.


It's been almost 4 weeks since the win, and I still look at the big picture, we now won another ring, but how can we keep improving? How can we dictate those salaries, lower our cap and obtain more talent? The win is still as sweet as summer pineapple, but the cycle of the combine, free agency and draft lead to look to the near future and how to improve and defend our title. It's still February, but it's still football season to me.

Mets future is bright

It was obvious that one team in New York was going to have some big changes sweep through the organization. When Omar Minaya started a spending spree which included; Jason Bay, Johan Santana, Oliver Perez and others. It was questioned because these were players who were near or past their prime. These moves cap strapped the team down and they all the signings backfired. To add insult to injury the team received news that members of the front office were declaring bankruptcy being Bernie Madkoff.

So what followed was many smart business moves which included Minaya departing. This left a organization in a semi rebuilding mode. They dealt Carlos Beltran and brought back Zack Wheeler who was considered the top pitching prospect in baseball. Another key move was drafting North Carolina pitcher Matt Harvey, who was a good prospect who needed to work on his offspeed pitches to be in the pros. Last season was bad and led to the trade of Dickey and they let Reyes go. In return for Dickey came highly regarded catcher Travis d'Arnaud and pitcher Noah Syndergaard who has been making some noise. Another young arm is Rafael Montero and also Michael Fulmer who both posted good era and strike out totals. Brandon Nimmo has been hitting good so far and seems like a possible outfielder of the future.

The Mets are in position to make some noise in the 2014 season, as this year is more of a trial run. Harvey is surprising everyone with his command and strikeout numbers. It seems Wheeler will come up next year in full, but needs gametime this year for experience. The likes of Ike Davis and Lucas Duda are important pieces who are struggling to perform. Pitching wise they will compete, but the performance will come down to how well the offense will come together. 

NFL defensive schemes

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that as a Patriot fan that I favor a couple packages I have seen the Pats run over the years. I personally believe that the 34 defense is the stronger base defense compared to a 43, and I heavily favor the 1-5-5 sub nickel package as well in passing downs.

Let's first examine what the 34 defense is built for. You base your team around an "anchor" defensive (nose) tackle to take on multiple blockers and cover multiple gaps. In many cases they do the dirty work to help free up opportunities at the next level of the defense. They are more built for pure strength then for more of a speed rush ability. This also is a characteristic that the defensive ends are created for. They have a bit more flexibility not having to be pure run stuffers, but they also use gap control. They need to dictate changing the runners lane to inside or outside depending on what the defensive call is. You usually don't see how sack totals for any of the lineman. Your linebackers feed off of what the line creates. Your outside linebackers are in control of sealing off a runner to break outside, and kick the play back in. In passing downs they in many cases bring pressure,  but can be used in zone coverage. The inside linebackers rack up a lot of tackles if the nose tackle does his job. Their responsibility is shutting down interior movement. In passing down they can be left in zone of man coverage on a tight end of running back.

I feel there is a greater advantage when running the 34 defense compared to a 43 defense. You have more speed on the field, having an extra linebacker over a lineman. This allows you to have more zone defense, and can run the risk of man coverage with safety help deep. In many cases, even against the run you're outside linebacker has good enough size to engage and contain run plays. It also creates more unique blitz packages allowing you to overload a side, or cross your middle linebackers with a delayed blitz.

A under the radar formation I like is a sub nickel package, the 1-5-5. Used is longer passing downs, it is thrown in a couple times a game. You're only using one defensive lineman, with five linebackers. When you use this, the linebackers usually are constantly moving before the snap creating confusion on who is blitzing and who drops out in coverage. This leads the quarterback into calling a play without a full knowledge of what the defense will do. Once again you have better speed on the field, with a single lineman and many linebackers. It gives flexibility in what kind of blitz and coverage schemes you run.

Even though I favor these techniques, it truly comes down to what personal each team has. You can't run a system most players aren't familiar with or moving a player to a position they aren't known for. In many cases a outside linebacker is looked at a defensive end or vise versa depending on their size. Strategy and game planning have a major factor in determining what you run from week to week. Having the ability to practice and use multiple defenses at all stages of a game increases the success rate of the team.

Patriots Offseason Report

Just like that, the most hyped about offseason procedure has already passed us by. The NFL draft has come and gone, and what many people thought happened in NE, a trade down to obtain more picks. I figured based on the lack of late round picks, the Pats and BB wouldn't stay put at 29 regardless of the talent that was available. They received a plethora of picks so the Vikings can move back into the first round (3rd pick for them) and get a dynamic player in Patterson. I say the Patriots made out pretty well getting four picks, to help add depth. So lets look at some key points this offseason the Patriots had.

1) The biggest move this offseason in my opinion is the resigning of Sebastian Vollmer. A guy that doesn't received a lot of recognition, he has battled injuries and performs at a high level. He not only excels at the run blocking game(most RT are known more for this responsibility) but he also has been great in passing downs. Vollmer can be considered in the top three for right tackles by most, but I would rank him as the top right tackle. I did say injuries has affected his playing time, but when healthy the guy has been a stu, and deserved the contracted extension that was fairly cheap.

2) Bringing back Aqib Talib was also an important decision, as he improved the defense as a whole. Also with Dennard not receiving any jail time this year, he will be ready to go as well. The reason I'm not sold entirely on Talib is last season the Pats got to the Superbowl without a stud corner anyways. Talib no doubt is a difference maker, but we will see with a full season if he keeps working hard, or if he fades during the season. Regardless, I don't see him mixing well in the future past this year.

3) The surprise decision to not resign Wes Welker will pay dividends to the future of the Patriots. If Welker was signed for say 3 yrs 24 mil you invest 8 mil a season and leave little flexibility. The Patriots got Amendola who is younger, and has the same characteristics as Welker for 5 yr 31 million. For a guy who is 27, and hasn't peaked due to quarterback inconsistency and no weapons around him. Also I believe Donald Jones will be a quite, but good pickup. Like Amendola, he had a bad QB in Fitz, who only tended to target Stevie Johnson and Scott Chandler. Jones will be a solid two receiver and will get chances to make plays.

4) CFL acquisitions in Jason Vega and Arnold Armstead will have their work cut out for them. It seems this year a lot of competition will happen at nearly every position. Armstead to me seems like a classic pass rushing guy who will sub in for Wilfork. He has good hands and footwork that fooled offensive lineman last season. Vega is thrown into a bunch that includes; Jones, Nink, Francis, Cunningham and others. He did get a 3 year deal which surprised me, so he must be in the future plans if they rolled out a 3 year deal.

5) The draft was highlights with a classic BB approach in acquiring more picks via a trade down. I liked the move, getting four picks from the Vikings  to help add depth. In my eyes Aaron Dobson was the best selection we had. A guy that is 6'2" 210 pounds, he made some circus catches at Marshall. He is a big, strong guy who can spread the field. The stat I found with the most meaning. no dropped catches last year for him, so sure hands seem like a given. Josh Boyce was another good pick. He ran a 4.38 40 time, and put up 22 reps on bench. He seems like a strong, athletic kid that will add depth as maybe a 5th receiver. On the defensive side of the ball, Logan Ryan will help add depth to a weak cornerback committee. I didn't like the selection on Duron Harmon, feel like it was a wasted pick with getting Tavon Wilson last year. I believe Steve Beauharnais will be a solid rotational guy and special teamer. Jaime Collins is someone who on tape showed me he can read that spread offense that has been more popular in the NFL of recent. He reads the ball well and swarms whoever ends up with the ball. Look for him to get worked in like Justin Francis did last year, as a pass rusher off the edge.

Overall, I felt free agency was a success though I rather have gotten Sean Smith because he has youth and a ton of upside at corner. I did like the moves at receiver and feel Tommy Kelly will help plug the middle now he has a superior guy next to him. As far as the draft, I felt there were better players available at certain picks that would have benefitted the team better (Margus Hunt, Quinton Patton). Regardless it's hard to tell what BB is going to do, but we know the Patriots always come away better as a team and compete. It should be fun seeing how some of the new faces develop. I plan on going to training camp and evaluate some guys better come August.

With the First pick in the 2013 Draft....

1. Chiefs- Eric Fischer: The Chiefs have a good amount of talent of their roster after a very strong FA offseason. They obtained their QB, and got help at CB for the defense. To protect the investment in ALex Smith, the CHiefs take the smaller school Fischer over the big name Joeckle. You can't go wrong with either, but Fischer has a mentality that matches the Chiefs play style with Andy Reid.

2. Jaguars- Luke Joeckle: The Jaguars are in a situation with many needs, and have many options here. They may be able to deal this pick for others with Joeckle being available. I think they stay put and draft him. It's much safer a pick then a defensive lineman who they have missed on in past years (Derrick Harvey, Tyson Alualu, Terrance Knighton). Joeckle is a absolute monster, and a decade plus of a top caliber tackle.

3. Cardinals- Lane Johnson: The Cardinals need a lot of help on the offensive line, so they trade up to make sure they get a top tackle in this draft. Lane Johnson didn't get as much hype, but put up great combine numbers. His 4.7 40 time shows the athletic ability this kid has, and may have the best career of the top 3 tackles in the draft.

4. Eagles- Dion Jordan: The Eagles are in the best position because they can field trade offers for teams looking at tackles. But with the top 3 gone, they have to sit at home and look at the top defensive players available. I believe they take Dion Jordan to help fill their OLB core. The switch to a 3-4 defense, plus Jordan knowing Chip Kelly make a perfect match. He can lead the rushing group, along with Brandon Graham.

5. Lions- Ezekiel Ansah: The Lions lost a lot of players on the defensive line (Avril, Vanden Bosch) and need to address the tackle spot as well. They won't reach on DJ Fluker, so they take one of the most talked about players in Ansah. With comparisons to JPP, he features a ton of raw talent with good speed and footwork. It comes down to will he turn that raw talent into a better skill set?

6. Browns- Dee Millner: The Browns have a young and upcoming defense. They lost Sheldon Brown in the offseason, so they need a corner to replace him. Pairing Haden with Millner could produce the most dangerous young tandem in the nfl. Millner has had many surgeries that have been reported, but you can't deny his skill set.

7. Raiders- Star Lotulelei: The Raiders lost 3 defensive tackles this offseason (Seymour, Bryant, Kelly) and have a gaping hole in the middle of the line. It was between Floyd and Star, but I think Star has a better skill set and has medically checked out. He can help bring some inside pressure and leadership to a damaged unit.

8. Bills- Johnathan Cooper: The Bills want a new QB, but with none selected thus far, there isn't many other teams looking to fill a void at that spot outside the top 10. So they address a big need after losing Andy Levitre. If CJ Spiller is going to continue improving, then he needs a strong, versatile guard to open up holes on the line.

9. Jets- Barkevious Mingo: The Jets have plenty of rebuilding to do, and given they have a defense first mindset, they have to add a pass rusher. They did take Quinton Coples last year, but have lost many players on the front 7. Mingo is projected as a top OLB in this draft class, and should add speed on the outside for a aging defense.

10. Titans- Shariff Floyd: The Titans added some important pieces to the offense this offseason (Delane Walker, Andy Levitre, Fitz). They see that Floyd has fallen and scoop him up at 10. They don't have a great defensive tackle, and could use pressure up the middle of the defense. They also may look at a cornerback here like Xavier Rhodes.

11. Chargers- Chance Warmack: The Chargers had to piece together an offensive line last season, which was almost as bad as the Cardinals line. Warmack, who once was considered a top 5 pick has been falling on draft boards. With a high need at guard and tackle, the Chargers take a guy who will step in and start for Louis Vasquez who they lost.

12. Dolphins- Xavier Rhodes: The Phins complete the trade for Brandon Albert and address the lost of Jake Long. After that, they could use help at defensive tackle and cornerback. With the addition of Brent Grimes, that was a prove it contract. So they add Rhodes to replace Smith, who is also physical at the line. Rhodes has the best size of the corners in this draft class, and will start immediately.

13. Jets- Tavon Austin: The Jets have been looking at adding some speed at the receiver position, even though they grabbed Stephen Hill last season. Austin is versatile, lining up at receiver, returner and running back. The Jets look to mimic the Pats with having an elite slot guy to create mismatches. Austin is the most excited player in this draft.

14. Panthers- Sheldon Richardson: The Panthers tried waiting later in the draft last year to address defensive tackle last year, and you could see they made a mistake with a soft tackle play. McClain didn't have any impact for them. So they make sure they grab the top defensive tackle this year who can step in and help Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy who both have been huge for the defense.

15. Saints- Kenny Vacarro: The Saints were torched last year in many different games with a lack of back end talent. They need help in the secondary, so they grab the best player rated available at this spot. Vacarro is considered the best safety in the class, and will add youth and skill to a bismel group.

16. Rams- Alec Olgetree: The Rams have been adding pieces to the defense the last couple of draft's and offseasons. They still have some area's of need; safety and outside linebacker. James Laurinitis has no help next to him, and usually takes a beating. Olgetree adds some strength and will become an impact guy to the 2nd level of the defense. With 2 picks, the Rams can really make this team contend this season.

17. Steelers- Jarvis Jones: The Steelers lost James Harrison and have a need for a outside linebacker to bring pressure. Though Jones has a medical issue with his spine, the Steelers will take the risk of adding a stud pass rusher.

18. Cowboys- Sylvester Williams: The Cowboys need help on the offensive and defensive line. But the defensive tackle position has been non-existent for them last year. They add Williams to help get pressure up the middle and slow down inside running lanes.

19. Giants- D.J. Hayden: The Giants have had issues with having a healthy secondary in the past couple of seasons. Terrell Thomas and Prince Amukamara both have been banged up. Hayden has flown up draft boards, and can add good ball skills to a hurting secondary.

20. Bears- Manti Teo: There it is, Manti Teo after all the offseason drama and poor showing in the championship game gets selected. The Bears need a commander of the defense with letting Urlacher leave. They have hole at OLB as well, but Teo is someone that can command the middle and replae the talented and aging Urlacher.

21. Bengals- Eric Reid: The Bengals need help at safety between using Taylor Mays who was terrible, and moving Terrence Newman back there. Eric Reid was a force at LSU, displaying good ball skills, finding the ball, and helping in run support.

22. Rams- Cordarrelle Parrerson: The Rams lost Danny Amendola their top receiving threat in FA, and Brandon Gibson as well. They need a fast, downfield playmaker to fill the voids they have. Patterson has had limited football playing time, but has shown glimpses of big play threats.

23. Vikings- DeAndre Hopkins: After seeing a couple receivers get selected, the Viks use their first pick to replace Percy Harvin. Hopkins isn't as lightning quick, but had a great career at Clemson. He has good speed, has good hands and solid route runner. He should help add a passing threat for Ponder.

24. Colts- Datone Jones: The Colts made a lot of good free agent additions this offseason (Cherius, Thomas) to name a few. They also added some depth on the defensive line, but need a impact player to add pressure off the edge. Jones has versatility playing end and tackle, and has a great motor.

25. Falcons- Desmond Trufant: The Falcons have said they want to trade up in the draft and to me they have to be looking at a cornerback. With the lose of Grimes and Robinson they have holes to fill in the secondary. They move up and grab Trufant, who fights for the ball and will play bump and run with receivers.

26. Packers- Bjoern Werner: The Packers need help in the front seven for Clay Mathews. They should last season you can't rely on one player to slow down a good offensive team. Werner will bring in strong pass rushing skills, and a high motor to a team that looked flat defensively against the 49ers in the playoffs.

27. Texans- Robert Woods: Robert Woods has been electric at USC, he seemed to always be making plays when he got the ball. Andre Johnson needs a younger, athletic guy who can take pressure off him in the passing game. Woods will help in the intermediate passing game, and has good after the catch ability.

28. Broncos- Matt Elam: The Broncos won't admit it, but their safety play killed them late in the game against the Ravens in the playoffs. They have youth back there, but not playmakers. Elam has been a leader at Florida, and tends to make big plays. Many people also think cornerback is a need, with Bailey looking like he lost a step. But with the signing of DRC, and having Chris Harris and Porter there. I don't see it addressed yet.

29. Bills- Ryan Nassib: You can't shake your head and wonder all day what the Bills claimed the days leading up to the draft, but the Matt Barkley story was a smokescreen. As long as Nassib is available, the Bills will trade up and take Marrone's old QB at Cuse. There isn't a guaranteed homerun quarterback this year, so it comes down to preference.

30. Vikings- Jamar Taylor: The Vikings have lost Antoine Winfield in FA, and have a big need a cornerback now. Taylor has good speed (4.37 40), and helps in the run defense. He is quick and can get underneath  coverage.

31.49ers- Margus Hunt: San Fran has a luxury of draft picks this year, with not many needs. They do need some depth on the defensive line. They take Hunt, who is vastly similar to Justin Smith, who is at the end of the line. Hunt is a force and created a lot of pressure. The only issue I have is his age, given he is already 26 but you can't knock his football skills, as he has been a beast for the SMU program.

32. Ravens- Kevin Minter: The Superbowl champs have completely gutted the team, losing a high amount of players (Boldin, Lewis, Reed, Ellerbe). They have many needs, even though they signed some decent players in FA. It starts with leadership, and they take someone who will try and mask Ray Lewis and command the defense. Kevin Minter was the leader of the LSU defense. He was always around the ball, and made a impact of so many plays. This could be a chance to trade back and gain more picks, but adding a guy like Minter seems hard not to do.


The trades included Buffalo sending their 2nd rd pick and 4th rd pick (41, 71) to the Pats for the 29th pick.

The Vikings received the 30th and 163rd pick of Atlanta for the 163rd pick.

There will be many more, but I don't have the time nor the patience to include all of them. I project at least 5 trades to happen, if not a upwards of 10 is possible.

MLB season wrap; World Series Preview

Who would of thought the Detroit Tigers would be in a position to play in the world series back in April? Let alone the Orioles making to a matchup against the arch rival Yankees? Well both situation played out this season, which happened to be filled with suprises. The Pirates nearly ended the longest drought for a team to finish at the .500 level. The Nationals led by the best one two rotation won the NL East, but fell in part to the benching of Strasberg. It was a crazy season, with alot of movement in standings, and at the trade deadline. The Red Sox took a huge step back unloading Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett. A team that naturally goes to the wire with the Yanks, looks in the shape to start rebuilding with a new manager in charge. Now we are left 2 teams, with the same goal, having 7 games to decide who raises that championship trophy.

In analysizing both teams, I like the Tigers on paper. They got the most dominant right hander in Justin Verlander, and most dominant hitter in Miguel Cabrera. I also like the protection he receivers from Prince Fielder. They have a balanced lineup, with Austin Jackson actually producing in the leadoff spot. Their pitching staff in the pen also is quite dominant, as Phil Coke has gased most hitters he has faced, and Valverde is also dominant for the most part.

I won't take away from the Giants, who are a veteran team that have produced when it mattered most. Coming back into the pkayoff race when they were struggling early, their pitching got hot and the bats hotter. I do like Zito did in the playoffs, and the staff the Giants have. I think too much pressure will lay into Buster Posey and Pablo Sandavols hands.

I think series is going to go to 6 games, and having a guy like Verlander pitch 2 games is the main difference. He is going to pitch well, and he is the X factor in the series. I think Phil Coke will be right there in helping the Tigers win the world series. What do you think?

Local School Merger leaves communities with tough decisions

Something that separates many of the smaller New York State towns and communities is individuality. Each of them value there own small town beliefs, activities and for sports the  smaller town rivalries they have. Well it now faces some of these communities with a very tough decision as far as the future of there children. In central New York the towns of; Ilion, Mohawk and Herkimer now lay on the decision of combining the schools in the good of the children, and for each communities. It has been said if this 3 town merger doesn't take place, it will be a matter of time in which each school will have to cut a majority of clubs, activities, libraries, music and several other areas. Based on what has been discussed in the town meetings, it has been relayed that the state can't support, and will not support small communities and will dish out money if mergers are made. So it leaves community members asking themselves what is better for my kids, and how can the decision affect their future.

The arguement to against the merger rest on 3 keys areas; 1) Increase class size, which leads to less concentration on the individual student. 2) Increase levels of bullying, due to the increase levels of students. I believe that this can trickle down to issues with containment of controlling any fights, with a limited amount of staff members.  3) Travel issues with getting to school on time, and getting home at adaquete times.

The first issue is a increase class size, with the combination of 3 school districts obviously you can triple the amount of students at each grade level. This comes into play as far as isolating kids in the classroom. I can't see the logic that there will be 25 kids to a class. If they are eliminating teachers, how can this number hold truth? Also another interesting idea is how do all the students receive proper care from guidance counselers. If there are a decrease in the staffing, I can't see more then 3-4 counselers, that will have to cover 4 grade levels. This is a important part for interaction as far as preparing for college, and emotional support in hard times. Unless additional people are brought in, they will be needed more then ever with the new merge of schools. Kids will have more needs, and have to adjust using counselers to help them. This increase of class size will lead to kids being left out as far as sports are concerned as well. Even if you field modified, junoir varsity and varsity you won't be able to include everyone. Some sports (basketball) only carry 12 kids on a team in most cases. You also need to look at certain grade levels can play in certain sport levels, so there isnt a increase if you add junoir varisty. If you can create new sports, the impact won't be immediate. The new sports would more then likely need someone to coach with great patience and experience. Most kids would need time to learn the sport, so winning wouldn't be something to expect for the first few years.

Bullying is something that in the United States already is a high  concern. It happens more in smaller communities because the areas are closer to each other, and there isn't as good of preventative care. Just in Ilion alone there was a gun and bomb threat when i was in school because of bullying. Combine 3 schools, with a increase load of kids that have natural rivalries. That doesn't equal a winning formula. I think isolation and groups get created by the tudent base, and they will clash.

The last area I see as a issue is commute time, and not only for kids to school but the community as a whole. The increase traffic flow because of the buses will slow down the traffic in each town. To me, this creates a issue getting to work. You now need to leave much earlier because buses take alot longer to communte, with stop and go traffic. Some people that travel to utica or farther may have issues making it on time. As far as school wise, kids will have to get up earlier, especially if they are going to another town for school. If you play sports, and you play outside the viewing area say Syracuse, you may get home at 9 or 10pm. Then to eat and do homework you may not get to bed until 12am, then be up at 6am the  next day.


Reasonings for the merger are pretty clear; 1) Allow the children to continue in extra cirricular activities. 2) Expand the opportunities whether it's new sports or classes available. 3) Gel the community together for the children.

The first issue is very important, because not merging can result in some of the important areas that allow kids to learn and grow. Losing library and media centers immediately slow down the progress of learning. The Ilion library has one of the nicer libraries, with alot of computers and tools to learn. Taking away this limits students to gain information at school for projects and essays. Music is another area kids express themselves. Losing this, for some kids takes away a passion they have, and if they don't play sports then they have nothing outside of going to class. Losing clubs like a spanish club or english club also takes away from looking forward to something after school that a kid may enjoy.

The next issue is a merger will allow for the opportunity to increase the types of classes that are available, and the sports being offered. In Ilion when I attended school Spanish was the only option as far as foreign language, whether it has changed i don't know. But having the option for say chinese or italian could spark interest for kids trying a new language. This obviously can help them in the future when it comes to getting a job. Knowing another language is a huge bonus employers look for. As far as sports, the merger could increase new sports available to kids, which can help disburse those left out in others. There will be a learning curve, but it will get kids out there to be active and feel part of something. It does open up the open for those who aren't sur ewhat sport to do, to try something new and allow another kid to play a sport they want to.

The last area I look at that may help with a merger is to bring the 3 towns that have had rivalries in sports, and in general is coming together for the children. Putting aside that there is bad blood because of how close these towns are to each other, and they compete against the other. The easiest way for the merger to work is by the community coming together for each other, and for the future of this area. It's already a poorer area, so conflict between each town just makes things alot harder as far as advancing and becoming more successful as a region. With these 3 communities helping each other out, it not only goes a long way for the kids getting along, but also to help this area econmically.


Regardless of which side you decide to vote, each side has it's share of valid arguements. Each side could help or hurt the area as a whole. It comes down to your values and beliefs as a individual. You should vote in the best interest of your child, not the best interest for yourself. Whatever option will lead your family in the best direction from here forward. The decision rest in the hands of the community.

Pats loaded up for another dynasty

No team in NFL history has compiled success in back to back decades, but thats about to change. The New ENgland Patriots, led by BB and Tom Brady once again are loaded in the talent pool, and have all the pieces in place to make another run at the superbowl for years to come. The reasonings for this is mostly through the NFL draft. BB has made some questionable picks the last couple years, but he has found some stars in the rough. Lets look more in depth in some areas that will help the Pats redefine the organization.

1. The Tight End Connect:

No other team in the league can match the Patriots at the tight end position. The have Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Daniel Fells. "Gronk" compiled one of the most successful seasons not only as a tight end, but as a pass catcher. His 17 touchdowns was untouchable, and his physical assests are hard to cover. He has a big frame that helps him bring in balls thrown his way, and protects him from big hits. If you need a example, just watch the highlights from the Redskin or Jet games. Don't forget about his complement Aaron Hernandez, who also had a big season. He had 910 yards, and caught 7 td's. They are a combination that includes big size, and speed that leaves safeties and linebackers shaking their heads to cover. And did I mention Daniel Fells, who started in Denver as their featured tight end. Fells signed a three year deal to be a third tight end in New England. That says he took less money and less of a role to go to a to organization for a chance to play in the postseason. What was key this offseason was the Pats locking up Gronkowski with a 6 year, 54 million dollar contract. Tom Brady just got his favorite target signed until he retires, and I believe Aaron Hernandez will get a extension sometime this year. I can see the Patriots letting Welker go after this year, going with more tight end sets.

2. Getting Defensive:

The Patriots were down right ugly last season against the pass, partially with a limited offseason because labor talks. Regardless, the secondary was getting torched through the air it seemed on a weekly basis. Given this, I think their defense is about to come together and b a force in the league. They have a full offseason to come together as a unit, and determine the play packages more rather then switching as much as they did. I believe they have the personnel to match either a 3-4 or 4-3 base scheme. The key component of the defense will be the front seven, which I believe is very athletic and strong. The additions of Jonathan Fannene will help the line create some more pressure in passing downs. I think Chandler Jones will emerge on the scene at defensive end, and become their man pass rusher with Rob Ninkovich. To top that off, Donta Hightower is a versitile linebacker who can play defensive end, inside/outside linebacker. He was used all over the place at Alabama, and will be a valuable asset when the Pats rotate the 3-4 and 4-3. The linebacking core is led by Jerod Mayo, who likely will line up as a outside backer now. But pairing Brandon Spikes and Hightower inside seems like a power house against the run in the middle. You add Mayo and Ninkovich(or Jones in 3-4) outside and you have a very young and strong linebacker core.

Overall, the defense will have only 1 starter, being Wilfork at the north of 30 mark. Every other player is south of it, most still youngsters. Thos eunder the age of 26 include; Jerod Mayo, Kyle Love, Patrick Chung, Kyle Arrington, Brandon Spikes, Brandon Deaderick, Donta Hightower, and Chandler Jones. At least five will be starters, depending on the defense. The Pats use a hybrid 3-4/4-3 so in many cases all of these kids will see plenty of time. It's alot of youth, but we have seen Mayo lead the league in tackles one year, McCourty grab 7 INT's, and Spikes has closed up the middle runnnig games. If all of these players gel in camp this season and next, I think you could see 4-5 pro bowl players, and a defensive in the top 10.

3. Coaching:

Its no doubt BB and Robert Kraft have turned aroung the New England Patriot organization apon their arrival. Kraft has not only made a great team, but was the biggest difference maker in labor talks last year. BB has a very interesting coaching style, he goes for it when most would punt, and he will run the score up if the other team quits. Regardless of what people think, this guy has nailed down how to run this team. The Patriots didn't have a strong core of players in the first Superbowl win, but they played how they were coached. I think the big thing here is can BB develop all these youngsters on the defensive side of the ball. Since Mike Vrabel, and Tedy Bruschi, the Pats haven't had a leader on defense. The emergences of Vince Wilfork the last couple years has helped. But they need Jerod Mayo to help as well, and other kids to play to that level. Another area to watch is the offensive lineman and how they adjust. Dante Scarnecchia is considered one of the best out there, and he has some work to do. Logan Mankins is coming off knee surgery, and Matt Light retired. They still are waiting on Brian Waters, and Sebastian Vollmer has been banged around. In my opinion, I think the Pats are ok, with the depth of Robert Gallery who can play guard or tackle. They also have both Dan Koppen and Dan Connely back after signing them. Both can play center and guard. Nate Solder will replace Matt Light, and he showed how physical he can be last year when playing for Vollmer. Marcus Cannon was a steal a couple years back when the Pats got him in 5th round, because of health issues. He can also play guard and tackle, and has a very big frame. After that the Pats hav a mixed bag, with Donald Thomas, Ryan Weendell and Matt Kopa. All who have had playing time, and shown flashes of starting ability. With work they definately can be great depth help, and start if need be. I think Scarnecchia can develop these players more, and help add needed depth behind a great front line.

Overall, I believe the Patriots can make at least 3 Superbowl apperences by the year 2020. As long as they keep a majority of the core players together, they should see significant growth. Gronkowski is just one example, and they locked him up long term. If the Patriots can extend one key player each offseason, then the adding of role players will help mold around their youth. It will be interesting to see the draft approach they use in the near future, given the amount of young blood of this team. I can say, they will continue to target the defensive, and also the offesive line.

Bryce Who? Mike Trout best baseball prospect

He might not be a household name like a Stephen Strasburg or Bryce Harper, but Mike Trout the rookie outfielder in Los Angeles is quickly changing that. The 20 year old rookie has been tearing the cover off the ball for the start of this season. Trout currently holds a .337 batting average, .397 on base percentage and he is holding down the leadoff position in the Angels lineup.

The biggest difference between Harper and Trout was where they were selected in the MLB draft, as Harper was the 1st selection in 2010 and Trout was 25th overall in 2009. Both of these kids are talented beyond their ages, both possessing qualities to become superstars in the next wave of stars in baseball. Both are considered the top prospects for each of there respected teams. Harper was a young, raw kid that has played all over the place in high school, demonstrating his speed and leadship. Trout was primarily used in the outfield, and has explosive speed.

So far, Harper is batting .289 with a .367 on base percentage. He is definately having a immediate impact of the Nationals efforts this season. He was called up back in April when the injury bug bit the Nats when losing Roger Bernadina and Michael Morse. He has shown glipses of why they selected him 1st overall 2 years ago. Of recent he has been starting to tune up his power and hit 7 homers, in which the last month has been where most have came. The one thing im waiting on is his speed, and increase stolen base opportunities. He currently is only 4 for 7, which is nothing to raise eyebrows to. Don't get me wrong, the Nationals have the opportunity to reshape a down franchise through Strasburg and now Harper. And I think the future for the organization is as bright as any other team, time will tell how Harper does.

But back to Trout, who most average fans probably couldn't even name what team he played for, or what level in the organization he was at. He is currently coming off a 4 hit game against th Giants, and he scored 4 runs as well. For the month of June, Trout is batting a ridiculous .398, and has shown a great deal of patience at the plate. The Angels were 7-14 pre Trout, and 30-18 since the call up and emergences of speed demon in the leadoff position. His good plate discipline, and base path knowledge has help the Angles manufacture more runs, and really is benefiting Albert Pujols and company.


Where I think he separates himself right now from Harper and any other fielding prospect is the 19 for 22 stolen base attempts. That 86 successful stolen base percentage is a unrealistic number, and shows he possess the knowledge of when the best time to role the dice to steal. Unlike other rookies, Trout can be considered not only a rookie of the year candidate, but the MVP of the league. If Trout keeps this pace of; average, runs, hits, and stolen bases I believe he will be in the top 3 of MVP talks if not win the honor.

The real test in my eyes comes twice a year; once right after the all-star break when you have time off which can throw off your streak of play. Also when you reach thos games in late August when the summer heat starts draining you, and you top the 100 plus game mark. Regardless of the end results, we may be in line for one of the best one-two combo's as far as prospect position players to develop and hit their stride at the same time. Be ready baseball, who says veteran presences holds the advantage in the game of patience.

NFL 32: Buffalo Bills

The Bills this offseason made huge strides to become a force in the AFC playoff picture. The addition of "Super" Mario Williams and a reliable Mark Anderson from division rival New England has solidified the front 7. The Bills came off a disappointment last season with start 5-0, then falling off and missing the playoffs. Another big area the Bills made smart decisions was in the draft this past year.

With their first selection they took Stephen Gilmore, cornerback out of South Carolina. Gilmore's stock flew up the charts since the NFL combine, and went from 2nd round to top 15 selection. Gilmore is considered the 2nd best corner to come out this year, and can be physical at the line. Even though the Bills have a solid secondary, maybe future plans to part with veterans is in the mix. Gilmore will add speed and physicality to the back 4, and help slow down the Patriots potent pass offense.

The offensive line for Buffalo has always been a concern, due to the fact of injuries seem to always hit. The have drafted good linemen (Eric Wood, Andy Levitre), they have just found the injury bug year in and year out. So with Cordy Glenn on the boards when they picked again, they jumped on the oppoprtunity. Glenn is 6'5" 345lbs, having one of the larger frames for offensive linemen to come out this year. To me he is a Lg/Rg because of how big he is, I can't see him moving fast enough at a tackle position. Unless he gets down to 330lbs minimum, I can't see him used as a tackle, as faster pass rushers will be able to fly by him.

Overall I think the Bills were one of the top teams to be aggressive in free agency, and also put together a solid draft. I think this is the year that the Bills may make the playoffs, obtaining one of the wild card positions. I don't think that they have the weapons on offense to help push them above the Patriots, but do have a good defense that will slow down high scoring teams. Look for the Bills to finish either 9-7 or 10-6 this season.

Final Mock Draft

1. Andrew Luck- It's as clear as day that the Colts have decided to take Luck with the first pick, it now shifts to how will they address others areas to help him succeed. With help needed in many areas not only on offense, look for the Colts to bea top 5 pick next year as well.

2. RGIII-  The Redskins traded everything but the kitchen sink to move up 4 spots. Though they will get their franchise Qb, I feel they will provide limited help this year and for years to come which will significantly hurt Griffins progress.

3. Matt Kalil-  The Vikings won't pass up on the 3rd best offensive player in the draft, and help protect Christian Ponder. Though a CB is another need area, I think they wait until round 2 to get one. Kalil is lights out and a starter a left tackle for the long haul.

4. Trent Richardson-  The Browns have needs all along the offense, but being that there is a drop off at running back they grab the best available. Richardson is powerful, and going to free pressure of McCoy or whoever the starter will be.

5. Morris Clayborne-  With the numerous question marks in the secondary, the Buccs need desperate help at corner. So its a no brainier that they take the best corner who is a instant impact in the league. Talib is in the thick, and not drafting Clayborne will be a mistake they will never let go.

6. Justin Blackmon-  The Rams have pulled off one of the best trades I have ever seen. Not only will they get their wide receiver that's needed, but they have extra picks this year and next. Adding a playmaker for Bradford is a must after losing Lloyd. The Rams could have a quick turnaround with 2 picks in the 2nd round.

7. Melvin Ingram-  The Jaguars need help pressuring the Qb so they don't get picked apart. Ingram is the top pass rushing option this year, and the Jags front 4 is been week for som90000000000
9. Fletcher Cox-   The Panthers have good defensive ends, but they need help getting pressure. Adding Cox, who is the most explosive d tackle in the draft will help free up Charles Johnson. Cox can add some pass rushing pressure in the middle, while slowing down the run game.

10. Riley Rieff-  With addinghelp on the defensive front 7, the Bills will look offense come Thursday night. Trading down is a option, but if they keep the pick I believe adding a top lineman finally happens. Rieff would replace the loss of Jason Peters and help keep Fitz alive.

11. Luke Kuechly-  Kuechly is the 2nd best defensive prospect behind Clayborne and the Chiefs would love the help in the middle. A player that can play in coverage, as well as physical against the run. One of the best linebackers since Patrick Willis came out.

12. Quinton Coples-  Seattle has lost several key players in the front seven, including the cut of Aaron Curry. So they look for a pass rusher who can come in and start day one. Though some question the motor of Coples, he becomes the 2nd defensive end taken.

13. Michael Floyd-  When you top player talks, you should listen and Fitzgerald is asking for this pick right here. Floyd can come and and take alot of pressure off of Fitz doing everything in the receiving game. The other option is getting a offensive tackle to help protect who ever will start at Qb.

14. Mark Barron-  The Cowboys have added Brodney Pool and Brandon Carr to help the secondary. Pool is not a long term starter, and Barron is a hard hitter who can make a instant impact.

15. Dontari Poe-  Poe is a example of raw talent, that has the opportunity to grow into a stud. A big, strong, and physical athlete who can wreck havoc on a offensive line. He will need to be double teamed, and help open up the linebackers for the Eagles.

16. Courtney Upshaw-  The Jets need to address the pass rush, as well as the defensive tackle position since losing Jenkins. Upshaw has the ability to rush as a linebacker, or as a d end. He is physical and strong and fits into the Rex Ryan style of play.

17. Dre Kirkpatrick-  Leon Hall is a top cornerback in the league, but doesn't get much recognition. He could use someone opposite him to help out. The Bengals also need help on the line, but have another pick this round.

18. Cordy Glenn-  The Chargers have a pressing need on the offensive line, with the loss of Marcus McNeil and Kris Dielman being banged up. Glenn is a big bodied kid, who will be able to handle the rushing defensive ends.

19. Jonathan Martin-  Jay Cutler seems to be always banged up and hit, which affects his high INT count. Martin was a top tackle protecting Andrew Luck, and will be a reliable player for some time.

20. Stephen Gilmore-  After losing Cortland Finnegan, the Titans need alot of help to replace him. Gilmore is  a rising player, and may go even higher then here. Hewould be a steal for the Titans and become the number 2 at least.

21. David Decastro-  The loss Bobbie Willaims hurts at right guard, so taking Decastro would be a easy pick. He is the top guard, but usually they aren't given alot of love. The Chiefs may look at Decastro at the 11 spot as well.

22. Kendell Wright-  After getting their running back, the Browns come right back and take a wide out. If McCoy is the starter, he needs a true WR who can play the position. Qb is also a place of need, but I think the 2nd round or a trade for Brian Hoyer is likely.

23. Janoris Jenkins-  The Lions have lacked a good corner for quite some time, and after targeting the from trenches on defense on late they finally add help. Jenkins has alot of baggage off the field, but does have the talent to play.

24. Donta Hightower-  The Steelers have the need at defensive tackle as well as middle linebacker, but Hightower has alot of versatility. He will play inside with Lawerance Timmons, but can move outside in sub-packages.

25. Michael Brockers-  The need for a stronger defensive line is a must, and so is secondary help. With the top corners gone, and Brockers loaded with talent how can you pass on him. Ty Warren is average, and Brockers also can play defensive end as well.

26. Stephen Hill-  The lack of receiving help for Andre Johnson puts alot of pressure on him, and when injuried the WR core is silent. Adding a speed demon like Hill can help stretch the field to a good offense as it is. Johnson will feel less pressured to do it all.

27. Chandler Jones-  The Patriots have a need to replace Mark Anderson, and Andre Carter is injured. Jones has freak like ability, and hasn't gotten to his size potential yet. He will be able to get physical with lineman but have the speed as well to get past them.

28. Shea McCellin-  A under the radar player who is flying up the boards. He is a great pass rusher, and fit well in with Clay Mathews opposite of him.

29. Whitney Mercilus-  Mercilus led the nation for college players in sacks this past year. He is a big, physical athlete who is very raw. He only started one full season,but has the tools to be a force at rushing the passer.

30. Kevin Zietler-  Not a flashy pick, but the 49ers address the interior offensive line by grabbing a solid player. A Wisconsin product, Zietler is a top rated player at hisposition, and should help the 49ers already good line continue opening up holes for Gore.

31. Harrison Smith-  The Patriots secondary was terrible last year, and used a rotating committee at safety last year. Adding Steven Gregory was a good step, and adding a guy like Smith can help improve the leagues 31st rank pss defense.

32. Coby Fleener-  The Giants suffered two big loses in the Superbowl when both their tight ends tore their ACL's. So the Giants need to get a tight end that can help replace both. Fleener is a big, physical product who is the top ranked at his position.

Peyton Manning Saga

Its not to often a team faces a decision to cut loose its premier quarterback, one who has changed the face of there organization from the moment he was drafted. Yet they face a similar situation as they did back in 1998, except they have a top level quarterback, and an opportunity to remold their organization.

Peyton Manning has been the top signal caller in the NFL for the last 10 years, and created one of the most hyped rivalry with counter part Tom Brady of the Patriots. When most games lead up to smack talking and  disrespect, the games between these two have none of that. Each player, each team knows it will be a physical, offensive battle and will usually come down to the last team with the ball. It was interesting that both players have   had an significant injury in there careers, when they were injury prone. Some will argue that Manning has had the statistics, as Brady has had the rings. If you ask me both players have been successful in their designated roles with there organization.

But Manning has had to deal with a injury that happened to totally control not only his football career, but his life. A injury believe to develop from several hits he has taken over the years, Manning finally needed surgery to fix a potential life threatening problem. So his decision to have surgery was simple, with the hope to miss maybe part of the season and return. The general public didn't realize how many surgeries were necessary to correct the issues in his neck/spine. It seemed that ever week some new development occurred about Peyton,  which eventually led to the leak of the multiple surgeries that were performed. It was finally found that a total of 4 operations were done to correct Manning's neck. This in turn led to the Colts posting a very disappointing season, andnow sit at the 1st selection in the draft. So it's a no doubter that the Colts will select the highest ranked QB since, well Manning. I'm not saying that this is a dumb move, because I wouldn't role the dice and bank on Peyton being 100 percent ever again. To top that off he is due 28 million dollars and the Colts decided that it isn't worth the risk.

So the next question to be answered, which everyone wonders is where will Peyton Manning end up. I think that given his situation with his health, and the limit left on his career he wants to go to a place that has pieces in place to win. I also believe he wants to be in a place with a strong front office, so I look at the Dolphins. He  would have Brandon Marshall as his big play receiver, and Davon  Bess As his sneaky go to guy. The phins need a leader at the helm, and Manning knows what he is doing. It comes down to if the Dolphins are willing to role the dice with his age and health. Matt Flynn is the highest sought QB being that he has youth and talent. It looks like the Redskins will make the move to get RG3, and that leaves Tannehill a solid 2nd round pick for a QB needy team. It should be interesting to see where Manning goes, and how the FA period develops, with so many big name players available. It seems this may be one of the most active FA and draft years in NFL history.

Patriots best draft Scenario

Well the combine is over, and there were several surprises that came about like Dontari Poe having a very respectable 40 time (4.98)and posting 44 reps on the bench press. Another surprise was Stephen Hill posting a crazy 40 time himself (4.33).But I will discuss the best options for the Patriots, and how they should draft to help improve the team.

The first order of business is to address the defense, more importantly the pass rushing area from the outside linebacker position.

So at #27 the Patriots should target multiple players if they are available when its their turn to select. First is Whitney Mercilus, Defensive End from Clemson. Mercilus led the nation in sacks last year (16) due to his aggressive and physical play. He is a motivated player who has a high motor. I see him as a OLB in the NFL, and can obviously play defensive  end as well. Hybrid formations in the 3-4 defense will utilize Mercilus and prevent protection problems Other players to look at here are Donatri Poe, Devon Still and Michael Brockers. All who are defensive tackles, but can be put at defensive end minus Poe. This allows more strength on the line, and take pressure of Wilfork to control things. A outside possibility here can be Nick Perry or Andre Branch. Both are in similar positions like Mercilus being they can play defensive end, yet will be used as OLB as well.

At #31, the Patriots can target a secondary need positions, which include safety and center, With the secondary getting torched last year, Mark Barron would come in and be a immediate force, and he is from Alabama where Nick Saban was a former Belichick product.Hewill allow Chung to come up in run support and Barron can punish receivers all day. Another option is Peter Konz, the lone center prospect that is worthy of a first round selection. He was very productive at Wisconsin, and is a beast who can start day one for the Pats who may lose Koppen and Connely.

In the second round, depending on the first round you may see the Pats trade up. if Hightower falls to the 2nd round I think a move up to select him would be a rewarding decision. He can play inside and outside linebacker and has good wheels for his size. Another guy to target is Stephen Gilmore, who is fast and uses good cover skills.

If the Patriots do not add a defensive end or linebacker in the 1st round, I think it will be another long year on the defense. Given that a good pass rush can lesson the pressure for the secondary, adding a edge rusher will help the secondary greatly. And if Barron falls, you found a steal at 31, with a player groomed for the NFL system. Bill Belichick needs to strike gold like last year in Grokowski and Hernandez, and Solder will be a great pick when he gets his chance. If they can add some playmaking help to a younger defense that has leadership (Mayo, Spikes, McCourty, Chung) will be great to help this team excel.
